The Tiji Festival is a significant celebration of Tibetan-Buddhist culture that takes place in the Lo-Manthang City of Upper Mustang. It has been celebrated for over 300 years and honors the victory of good over evil. "Tiji" is short for Tenpa Chirim, meaning prayer for world peace. The festival is linked to the folk history of Dorje Jono and Padmasambhava Guru Rinpoche, both revered figures in Tibetan Buddhism. During the three-day festival, monks perform the Vajrakila ritual at the Chhode monastery, and colorful masked dances depict the battle between Dorje Jono and the evil forces. The festival begins with a peaceful dance, which leads to a vibrant performance on the second day, and on the final day, performers dress up as demons and gods wearing eccentric masks and horns called "Dhungchen."This year Tiji Festival celebration will take place from the 16th-18th of May 2023
