The Mardi Himal Trek is one of Nepal’s most beautiful short trekking adventures, offering an exceptional combination of breathtaking Himalayan scenery, peaceful trails, rich local culture, and diverse natural landscapes. Located in the heart of the Annapurna region, this relatively new trekking route was officially opened in 2012 and has quickly become a favorite among trekkers seeking a quieter alternative to the busier Annapurna trails.
This 6-day journey takes you through the spectacular Annapurna Conservation Area, following well-maintained trails that wind through lush rhododendron forests, enchanting cloud-covered ridges, alpine meadows, and traditional mountain villages. Along the way, you'll encounter friendly Gurung communities, grazing yaks and mountain livestock, colorful wildflowers, and stunning Himalayan panoramas that constantly unfold before you.
One of the trek’s greatest attractions is its remarkably close-up view of Machhapuchhre (Fishtail Mountain), whose iconic pyramid-shaped summit dominates much of the route. As the trail gradually ascends through Forest Camp, Low Camp, Badal Danda, and High Camp, the scenery becomes increasingly dramatic. The ultimate reward awaits at Mardi Himal Viewpoint and Mardi Himal Base Camp, where trekkers are treated to spectacular views of Machhapuchhre, Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Mardi Himal, Annapurna I, and numerous surrounding peaks rising directly above the valleys below.
Unlike many high-altitude treks, the Mardi Himal Trek offers a gradual elevation gain that allows for natural acclimatization while maintaining a comfortable pace. The trek is generally graded as easy to moderate, making it suitable for both first-time trekkers and experienced hikers. Although the climb from High Camp to the Upper Viewpoint can be challenging due to steep terrain and chilly morning conditions, the effort is richly rewarded by some of the finest mountain vistas in Nepal.
Beyond its mountain scenery, the trek provides an authentic cultural experience. The route passes through traditional Gurung villages such as Siding, Lwang, and Pitham Deurali, where visitors can experience genuine Nepalese hospitality, traditional lifestyles, and locally prepared meals in cozy teahouses. The peaceful atmosphere, fewer crowds, and close interaction with local communities make the journey even more memorable.
Whether you are seeking your first Himalayan trekking experience or a shorter alternative to Nepal’s longer trekking routes, the Mardi Himal Trek delivers an unforgettable adventure. Combining pristine nature, spectacular ridgeline walking, charming villages, and extraordinary close-up views of the Annapurna range, it is one of the most rewarding and scenic short treks in the Himalayas.
After an early breakfast, embark on a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara aboard a comfortable tourist bus. The journey takes approximately 7–8 hours, following the picturesque Prithvi Highway through winding river valleys, terraced farmlands, lush green hills, and traditional Nepalese villages. Along the way, several stops will be made for refreshments, meals, and short breaks, allowing you to enjoy the changing landscapes and local surroundings.
As you approach Pokhara, the scenery becomes even more captivating, with beautiful lakes, forested hills, and distant Himalayan peaks creating a stunning backdrop. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel and settle in. The rest of the day is yours to relax or explore the vibrant Lakeside area, where charming cafés, restaurants, and the tranquil shores of Phewa Lake offer the perfect introduction to this beautiful lakeside city.
