Overview

The Annapurna Circuit is a popular trek in Nepal with diverse scenery and culture, ranging from subtropical forests and paddy fields to high mountain passes and arid cliffs. The trek passes through Manang, offering views of the Manaslu range, and continues over the Thorong La Pass, where hikers can see the Annapurna Massif, Dhaulagiri, Manaslu, and Tilicho Peak. It then enters Mustang and the Hindu pilgrimage town of Muktinath before heading down the Kali Gandaki Valley, past the village of Marpha and the hot springs at Tatopani, and up to the viewpoint of Poon Hill. The trek is long but allows for proper acclimatization before tackling the Thorong La pass. It offers a way to discover the different aspects, cultures, and landscapes of the country in one trip, and is a photographer's paradise. The trek is also full of daily surprises and interesting finds, such as the temple and 108 waterspouts at Muktinath and the Buddhist culture of monasteries and prayer flags in Jharkot and Kagbeni.

Trip Itinerary

After an early breakfast, we will board a local bus for a 6-7 hour journey (covering 190 km) to reach Besisahar. The route follows the Trishuli River out of the valley, providing picturesque views all along the way. As we pass by, you will be able to witness stunning terraced farms, charming villages, and the magnificent snow-capped peaks of Ganesh and Manaslu. Finally, we will reach Besishar, located along the Marsyangdi River, concluding the scenic ride.
The local bus ride from Jagat to Chame passes through scenic jungles and terrace farms along the Marsyangdi River, with a brief stop at Dharapani to register permits. Chame is a bustling town with a lively bazaar and hot springs where you can relax. You can also enjoy breathtaking views of Annapurna II and Lamjung Himal from Chame, and spot Manaslu and Peak 29 when looking back.
The actual trekking starts from Chame, and our first destination is Pisang. We embark on a steep and narrow valley trail, providing stunning views of the Paungda Danda Rock face, a curved rock formation towering 1500m from the river. This path also offers clear views of Annapurna II to the south and Pisang Peak to the northeast. After enjoying the scenic vistas, we descend to the Manang Valley floor and arrive at Pisang, concluding our hike for the day.
On this day, we continue our trek along the upper trails of Pisang, passing through Geru. This route is chosen for the exceptional views it offers of the northern face of Annapurna II, III, IV, Gangapurna, Tilicho, and Pisang Peak. As we ascend, the atmosphere turns cold, dry, and harsh. We will traverse several Tibetan-style settlements, providing an opportunity to explore the Buddhist culture before reaching Manang. Upon reaching Manang, we will visit the Barge Monastery, the largest monastery in Manang, for a brief stop.
On the fifth day, we face a challenging ascent of more than 500 meters, reaching Tanki Manang, an isolated village with stone-built houses. Continuing on, we reach the small village of Gunsang and a peaceful meadow named Yak Kharka, where we will spend the night.
Our trek for the day will be brief, lasting 3 to 4 hours, to facilitate acclimatization. We depart from Yak Kharka and cross the Jorsang River (4310m) on our way to Phedi, located at an elevation of 4,525m/14,525ft, which means "foot of the hill" in Nepali.
On the seventh day of our trip, we face the challenge of crossing Thorong La Pass, one of the highest passes in the world. We wake up very early to face this challenge, but the views from the Pass are worth it. From the pass, we can see a panorama of majestic Himalayan peaks extending to Tibet, and as we turn back, we can see the Annapurna massifs. After enjoying the views, we descend to Muktinath, a sacred site for both Hindus and Buddhists. The descent is steep, taking 3 to 4 hours, and at Muktinath, we can see the 108 water sprouts with icy-cold water flowing from Kali Gandaki, and the eternal flame burning for more than 2,000 years.

After waking up early in our Tatopani hotel, we'll use local transportation to travel to Pokhara. The journey will take approximately seven hours, and along the way, you'll pass through the picturesque Beni Bazaar town. Once you arrive in Pokhara, you'll find it to be a tourist paradise, offering nearly every amenity you could need. We highly recommend taking the time to explore the area and finding a nice restaurant for dinner. After a long day of travel, it's likely you'll be eager to indulge in some delicious food
On the tenth day, you will depart early morning to return to Kathmandu on a tourist bus. The 200 km route offers beautiful views of the natural scenery and farmlands along the Marsyangdi and Trishuli Rivers. After a final climb, you will arrive back in Kathmandu. We trust you had an unforgettable journey.
