Highlights

Overview

Tamang Heritage Trail lies north of Kathmandu Valley in the Rasuwa District. This trek offers the vast indigenous cultures of the Tamang community, magnificent views of Ganesh Himal, Langtang Himal, and more. Here, you can experience local Tamang culture & their lifestyle, stay at their home and connect with locals, and trek through terraced green farmland, thick forest, and Hot spring.

The Tamangs are considered one of the indigenous communities of the hilly region who originally came from Tibet as horse traders, thousands of years ago. They have retained a distinct identity with Tibetan roots, as well as their own language.

This trek is easily accessed from Kathmandu. Private Jeep or local buses are available from the New bus station from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi to Kathmandu.

Trip Preparation

Trip Itinerary

Day 1 : Arrival in Kathmandu

The representative will then guide you to your hotel. After you have checked in you will meet your guide, who will brief you about your upcoming trek, and answer any questions you may have.

Day 2 : Drive Kathmandu to Syabrubesi (1460m )

You will take an early morning 7 hours bus drive to Syabrubesi via Trisuli and Dhunche. On the way, you can see the beautiful mountain range of Annapurna, Manaslu, Ganesh, and Langtang. You will trek for half an hour before staying overnight in Syabrubesi.

Day 3 : Syabrubesi to Gatlang (2238m)

After two to three hours of ascent from Syabrubesi, we reach a viewpoint where we gain fantastic views of the Ganesh Himal, Gosainkunda range, and Langtang Lirung. We head down to Goljang valley (lunch stop) which is an hour's walk downhill from our viewpoint. Today we walk through many villages and along the trails there are numerous Buddhist shortens and mani walls. Gatlang is a beautiful Tamang village that is set high on a hillside among terraced fields. Stay overnight in a lodge or at home. Stay overnight in a home or lodge.

Day 4 : Gatlang to Tatopani (2340m)

Today, our trek begins by descending to Thangbuchet, near Chilime village by the Bhotekoshi River. Chilime Hydropower dam is situated here. After Chilime, we start to ascend first by crossing a small hanging bridge and continue until we reach Tatopani. En route, we have outstanding views of the Langtang Range and Ganesh Himal. Tatopani literally means ´hot water´, where one can cleanse in the natural hot springs. Locals believe that the waters have a healing quality that eases away your aches and pains. Stay overnight in the lodge.

Day 5 : Tatopani to Thuman (2240m)

This will be the longest trekking day. This morning we climb to Nagthali which is at a height of 3165m, which was once used as a popular meditation center for the local monks and priests. This is the highest pass of the area, lies in high open grassland, and offers panoramic views of snow-covered Langtang Lirung, Kerung, Ganesh Himal, and Sanjen Ranges. We descend down to Thuman, a heavily Tibetan-influenced Tamang village. If we are lucky, we might come across large troops of Nepal Gray Langur Monkeys. The ancient monasteries and houses adorned with rich wood engravings here are unforgettable experiences. Stay overnight in the lodge.

Day 6 : Thuman to Briddim (2239m)

Walking down to Bhotekoshi we trek uphill to Bridim, another Tibetan-influenced Tamang community located in the bosom of the Langtang Himal. About 43 houses are spread in a Z shape. Most of the houses are made up of stone and have roofs of split shake. Here, we may meet other trekkers on the Langtang trail. We have lunch stop there and continue. Overnight in lodge.

Day 7 : Briddim to Syabrubesi (1460)

Today is our last day of walking to Syabrubesi and over night at the hotel.

Day 8 : Drive to Kathmandu

After breakfast, we drive back to Kathmandu by private vehicle or local bus. It takes about 7 hours to drive on the rough road to Trisuli and takes lunch there. After lunch, we continue to drive to Kathmandu. Transfer to Hotel.
