Highlights

Overview

Experience the high mountain passes and yak caravans

Lower Dolpo Trek is an adventurous trip in the remote parts of Western Nepal. The trek starts from Juphal which is accessible by flight from Nepalgunj. Before heading towards Nepalgunj the trekkers explore UNESCO world heritage sites in Kathmandu. From Juphal, the trek along the beautiful Shey-Phoksundo National park gives any trekkers a heavenly feeling. The major highlights of the trip include Shey-Phoksundo Lake, the deepest lake in Nepal, and two adventurous high mountain passes-Numa La pass (5190 m) and the Baga La pass (5316 m). The lower Dolpo region became popular after an Oscar-nominated movie Caravan depicts the remote mountain life and natural beauty of the region. One of the most interesting parts of the trip is witnessing the rituals of the locals that still follow the Bon-Po religion which is said to have been in existence before Buddhism.

The Yak caravans on the remote lower Dolpo trails are a fantastic sight for any traveler. These caravans give any trekker the clue of salt trading with Tibet and the hardships of the Himalayan community. As Lower Dolpo Trek is a less traveled destination among trekkers, it is a highly recommended trek for peace lovers and wanderers. Further, the fascinating views of mountain ranges such as Dhaulagiri and Annapurna from Numa La Pass and Baga La Pass are other important highlights of Lower Dolpo Trek.
