Overview

The Langtang- Helambu Trek along the beautiful Langtang valley, holy Lake Gosainkunda (4700 m), and mesmerizing Helambu region sum up this trip. The trek starts from Syabrubesi in Rasuwa district after a 9-10 hours drive from Kathmandu. Langtang, Gosainkunda, and Helambu Trek are all about traveling through the lush forests, and charming Tamang villages and exploring beautiful natural and cultural heritages while enjoying spectacular views of Langtang ranges.

The major highlight of the trek includes roaming around Kyanjin Gompa on the laps of Mt.Langtang Lirung (7200m) and climbing the nearby small peaks such as Tserko Ri and Kyanjin Ri. From Kyanjin Gompa, the trekkers head toward the holy Lake Gosaikunda which is an important pilgrimage for both Hindus and Buddhists. This lake is believed to have divine healing powers to cure diseases when one takes a holy dip in it.

After exploring the Gosainkunda region the trekkers head to Laurebina pass crossing several lakes along the way. From Lauribina starts the mesmerizing trek to the Helambu region. Another major attraction of the trip is the holy Ama Yangri which stands at an elevation of 3800m to present breathtaking mountain views. This amazing hill presents close views of Mt.Shishapangma and Langtang ranges. After Ama Yangri, the trip continues to take the trekkers to the beautiful Helambu region where they can explore the rich cultural heritage of the Hyolmo community. The trek finally concludes with a drive to Kathmandu from Helambu.

Trip Preparation

Trip Itinerary

Day 1 : Arrival in Kathmandu (1,350m/4,428ft)

Our representative will pick you up at the international airport and drive you to the hotel. After then you will take a meandering evening walk with your guide through Kathmandu’s heritage sites, and get acquainted with one another over dinner together.

Day 2 : Kathmandu Sightseeing

Today you will spend the day discovering medieval Kathmandu. Venture into Pashupatinath and visit Nepal’s largest Buddhist stupa, the Boudhanath Stupa. Later afternoon you will visit the monkey temple and then stroll around the durbar squares in the evening. Overnight stay at a hotel near Thamel.

Day 3 : Kathmandu to Syabrubesi (1,550m/5,100ft) 7-8 hours

You will take an early morning 7 hours bus drive to Syabrubesi via Trisuli and Dhunche. On the way, you can see the beautiful mountain ranges of Annapurna, Manaslu, Ganesh, and Langtang. You will trek for half an hour before staying overnight in Syabrubesi.

Day 4 : Syabrubesi to Lama Hotel (2,380m/7,830ft) 6 hours

After breakfast, you will trek to Lama Hotel along the Langtang river. Today you will mostly trek through beautiful Rhododendron and Oak forest and finally get to Lama Hotel for staying overnight.

Day 5 : Lama Hotel to Mundu (3543m/11,621ft) 6-7 hours

Today along the way you can see many giant rocky mountains and waterfalls through their barren surface. You will get the first glimpse of Langtang from the green meadows of Ghoda Tabela. You will continue ascending the trek through the alpine grasslands and reach Langtang village. From there you will trek further and get to Mundu for staying overnight.

Day 6 : Mundu to Kyanjin Gompa (3,870m/12,697ft): 4-5 hours

Today you will get to Kyanjin Gompa one of the prime attractions of the Langtang valley trek. During the trek, you will pass by the largest Mani wall in Nepal. After noon you will explore this holy shrine while experiencing the stunning mountain views of Langtang. You will stay overnight at Kyanjin Gompa.

Day 7 : Acclimatization Day - Explore Tserko Ri (5000m/16,404ft) 7-8 hours

You can rest today at Kyanjin Gompa or explore the Tserko Ri (5000m/16,404ft). You can trek up the moraine to see the breathtaking view of Langtang Lirung or climb Kyangjin Ri behind the town which offers amazing views of the Langtang range. You can trek up to Tserko Ri and spend the day acclimatizing on this beautiful hilltop. You can get inspiring views of the rocky high tall rugged Himalayas. After noon you will descend down to Kyanjin Gompa for an overnight stay.

Day 8 : Kyanjin Gompa to Lama Hotel 6-7 hours

You will trek back to Lama Hotel following the Langtang river through Mundu and Ghoda Tabela. You will stay overnight at Lama Hotel.

Day 9 : Lama Hotel to Thulo Syabru 4-5 hours

Today you will trek up to the beautiful Rimche village through the rugged terrain. Not to mention you will stop in many tea houses taking rest and have tea. From Rimche you will continue trekking via Bamboo to the Landslide Lodge. Trekking further you will cross a bridge and reach Thulo Syabru for staying overnight.

Day 10 : Thulo Syabru to Shin Gompa: 3-4 hours

You will continue trekking further passing by the right side of several monasteries. Today you will trek through the Garta village enjoying its unique lifestyle. Afterward, you will trek to Phulung monastery and continue to Shin monastery for staying overnight.

Day 11 : Shin Gompa to Gosaikunda (4,460m/14,632ft): 5-6 hours

Today is another rewarding day of your trek as you will observe the popular Gosaikunda lake at 4380m. Your guide will tell you interesting stories about this lake relating to lord Shiva. This alpine lake situated on the top of mountains is frozen during the winter. The lake is accompanied by other beautiful lakes like Parvati Kunda, Rakhsas Taal, and nine other lakes. Thousands of Hindu pilgrims come to take bath in the Gosainkunda lake during the full moon of August. You will spend the rest of the day exploring the surrounding lakes and staying overnight in a tea house in Gosainkunda.

Day 12 : Gosaikunda to Ghopte (3,440m/11,286ft): 6-8 hours

Today you will cross the Lauri Bina pass at 4610m. Your guide will lead you down through the glacier moraines to the Melamchi valley. You will trek passing by the Surya Kunda enjoying the magnificent landscape views. Afterward, you will get to Ghopte for staying overnight.

Day 13 : Ghopte to Melamchigaon (2,560m/8,399ft): 6-7 hours

Today you will trek through the beautiful forest and reach Tharepati village. After then you will trek along the ridge of Soli Danda enjoying mesmerizing views of green hills and mountains. You will cross two rivers over the suspension bridge and ad get to Melamchi Gaon for staying overnight.

Day 14 : Melamchi Gaon to Tarkeghyang (2,590m/8,497ft): 5-6 hours

You will continue trekking further from Melamchi Gaon passing through the forest and getting to Ama Yangri at 3800m. You can get stunning views of mount Shishapangma and the Langtang range along the trail. Afterward, you will descend down to the alpine meadows and enter the dense rhododendron forest. Trekking further you will reach the beautiful Sherpa village in Tarke Gyang. You will stay overnight in Tarke Gyang observing the interesting cultural practices of the local people.

Day 15 : Tarkeghyang to Sermathang (2,610m/8,563ft): 3-5 hours

Today you will continue trekking through the lush rhododendron forest passing by several villages, monasteries, and farm fields. Along the trail, you can get a mesmerizing views of mont Ganesh and Jugal. You can also get a distant view of mount Everest behind the range. Trekking further you will reach the village in Semathang for staying overnight.

Day 16 : Sermathang to Kathmandu: 6 hours

Today is the last day of your wilderness trek. You will trek for two hours through the beautiful villages and cultivated lands and get to the marketplace of Melamchi. From there you will take a bus drive to Kathmandu along the Kordari highway. The bus driver will be alongside the river Bhotekoshi and then cross Sunkoshi. After then the winding road will take you to Dhulikhel and Banepa. Driving further you will enter Kathmandu valley from Sanga. Rest of the day you can spend in leisure, in the evening you will be invited for a farewell dinner from the company.

Day 17 : Departure

Make the most of your last minutes in Kathmandu with breakfast in a bistro, a city walk, and additional trinket shopping. Your guide will meet you at your inn and drive you to the airport two hours before the scheduled flight.
