Highlights

Overview

The Annapurna Base Camp Trek (ABC) is one of Nepal's most iconic and rewarding trekking adventures, offering an incredible combination of breathtaking mountain scenery, rich cultural experiences, and diverse natural landscapes. Leading to the base of Annapurna I (8,091m), the trek takes you deep into the heart of the Annapurna Sanctuary, surrounded by some of the most spectacular peaks in the Himalayas.

This unforgettable journey passes through charming Gurung and Magar villages, lush rhododendron and bamboo forests, terraced farmlands, and alpine landscapes that change dramatically with altitude. Along the trail, trekkers are rewarded with magnificent views of Annapurna I, Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Gangapurna, and the sacred Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), whose striking beauty dominates the skyline throughout much of the trek.

The highlight of the adventure is reaching Annapurna Base Camp (4,130m), where a natural amphitheater of towering snow-capped peaks creates one of the most awe-inspiring mountain panoramas in the world. Standing amidst the giant Himalayan walls and witnessing sunrise over the Annapurna massif is a truly unforgettable experience that leaves a lasting impression on every trekker.

Beyond its spectacular scenery, the Annapurna region is renowned for its rich biodiversity and cultural heritage. The trail passes through the protected landscapes of the Annapurna Conservation Area, home to a variety of wildlife, including Himalayan monal, Himalayan blue sheep, and numerous species of birds and plants. Equally memorable is the opportunity to experience the warm hospitality, unique traditions, and vibrant culture of the local mountain communities.

This carefully designed 8-day Annapurna Base Camp Trek is ideal for travelers who want to experience one of Nepal's most famous trekking destinations but have limited time. The itinerary follows a well-balanced route that maximizes both scenic beauty and trekking comfort while allowing trekkers to reach the heart of the Annapurna Sanctuary efficiently. Whether you are a first-time visitor to Nepal or an experienced trekker seeking a shorter Himalayan adventure, the Annapurna Base Camp Trek offers an extraordinary blend of mountain views, cultural encounters, and natural beauty that make it one of the finest trekking experiences in the Himalayas.

Trip Preparation

Trip Itinerary

Day 1 : Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara

The buses depart from the capital city of Kathmandu towards the lake city Pokhara (200km) in a 6-7 hour drive. The ride will be accompanied by sceneries of magnificent landscapes throughout Dhading and the perennial rivers of Trishuli and Marshyangdi along with glimpses of the splendid Annapurna Himalayan Range. The buses stop at around 12 pm for lunch.

Day 2 : Drive to Nayapul – Kimche and then short hike to Ghandruk (1940m), 2 hours walk

On the first day of our trek, we drive off from Pokhara to Nayapul- the initial point of the ABC trek. The ride takes no more than 2 hours. We book another jeep to Kimche from Nayapul; ascend to Ghandruk, and stay overnight at a lodge amidst the exotic Gurung village.

Day 3 : Trek to Chhomrong (2170m), 5-6 hours

Following breakfast, we trudge past Ghandruk towards Chhomrong, another scenic village walled by the pristine Annapurna range. Arguably the most arduous part of the trek, the hike to Chhomrong begins with a steep descent towards Kimrong River followed by a steady ascent up the rocky trails. Overnight stay at a lodge.

Day 4 : Trek to Dovan (2600m), 6-7 hours

After a hot breakfast, we begin our steep climb upwards to reach Sinuwa. You will see a distinctive overhanging rock on a ridge along the way called the Hinku Cave. After passing Sinuwa and Bamboo (2310m), a village shrouded with bamboo trees among other green vegetation, we will ultimately reach our destination for the day– Dovan.

Day 5 : Trek from Dovan to Machapuchare Base Camp (3700m), 6-7 hours

Typically, we commence our journey with a wholesome breakfast in the small but ornate village of Dovan. Then, we will hike along the trails of the Modi River to Machapuchare Base Camp (MBC). We will spend the night at a lodge situated near the foot of the glorious and sacred Machapuchare peak.

Day 6 : Reach Annapurna Base Camp (4130m), explore ABC and trek back to Dovan

After a relatively easy 2 hour hike from Dovan, we will finally arrive at Annapurna Base Camp. A panoramic scene of the majestic Annapurna Himalayan Range comprising of Annapurna 1 and 3, Machapuchare, Annapurna South, Himchuli, and Gandapurna is sure to be a feast for the eyes! After exploring the base camp, we will descend back to Dovan.

Day 7 : Trek to Jhinu (1760m), 6 hours

From Dovan, we will leave for Jhinu after breakfast. Jhinu, a prominent resting point, is home to a natural hot spring at the banks of the Modi River. Surpassing a trail of lush rhododendron forests and thickening vegetation, we will finally reach Jhinu via Jhinu Danda.

Day 8 : Trek to Siwai and then drive to Pokhara via Nayapul, 5 hours walk

On the final day of the trek, we will head towards the significantly dense village of Siwai, walking mostly a seemingly flat trail. From Siwai, we will take a jeep and end our journey with a 3-hour drive towards Pokhara via Nayapul. You can either spend the night in the vibrant lake city Pokhara or catch a night bus to the capital city.
